There’s lots of podcasts about data centers and AI infrastructure. In this video, Data Center Richness host Rich Miller shares his choices for the Top 5, based on years of tracking the top content in the data center sector.
This list will focus on the podcasts that are available here on YouTube, but we’ll also share several worthy audio-only podcasts. These resources will help data center users, executives and stakeholders understand the fast-moving Internet infrastructure business.
Over the years, I’ve watched and listened to a lot of podcasts about the data center sector, and I thought it would be useful to curate a list of the very best. Since we’re publishing on YouTube, our list will focus on the podcasts that are available here on the YouTube platform. Also, full disclosure, I’m doing this as I’m launching my newest data center podcast, and I think it’s good to start with a shout-out to the best existing content.
Coming in at number five is The QTS Experience podcast. There’s a growing number of podcasts produced by data center operators and service providers, and it’s hard to pick just one to highlight, but my choice is The QTS Experience, hosted by David McCall, a brand evangelist at QTS Data Centers. QTS has become one of the largest digital platforms on the planet. One of the things I like about The QTS Experience is that it’s not just channeling a particular company’s worldview or talking points, but it provides in-depth interviews on a wide range of topics in technology and science. David is interested in just about everything and has conversations with many A-list guests, providing insights to data center professionals and technologists.
Number four is The Inside Data Center podcast. This podcast is created and hosted by Andy Davis, a recruitment specialist whose data center industry updates have built an enormous following on LinkedIn. Andy has more than 55,000 followers, which he’s built through a weekly newsletter featuring news from around the globe. It’s this international perspective that delivers the real value for me. The Inside Data Center podcast features some of the leading innovators and business leaders in the data center community in Europe, and it’s a great way to become familiar with the global industry landscape. Andy recently added a new feature focused on the role of GPUs in the growth of data centers and AI. There’s a monthly podcast episode called “News and GPUs,” featuring commentary from Ben Baldieri, a UK-based expert and newsletter author who shares analysis on the services and GPU sector, as well as the Neocloud providers. It’s another good reason to listen to this podcast.
Number three is The Nomad Futurist podcast, which is a podcast with a mission to inspire younger generations to select critical infrastructure as a career path. Hosts Nabeel Mahmood and Phil Koblence believe that one way to do this is to share the stories of the people who work in and with data centers, sharing the amazing work they do along with their personal journeys. The podcast is part of the larger work of the Nomad Futurist Foundation, a nonprofit that works with schools and universities to educate younger generations about the technologies that power our digital world. Best of all, Nabil and Phil are gracious and entertaining hosts who convene great conversations.
Coming in at number two is The Data Center Revolution. The “long listen” has become a staple of the podcast world, featuring conversations that can span several hours and provide deep dives into a topic or showcase the experience of a guest. The Data Center Revolution podcast is the premier long listen in the data center world. Host Kirk Offel is the CEO of Overwatch Mission Critical, as well as the convenor of the popular DCAC data center anti-conference, which is held in Austin each year. Kirk has a vision for the data center sector, and these conversations provide insightful deep dives with conversations that can last two hours but provide a deep understanding of the guest and their expertise.
Number one on our list is The Data Center Hawk podcast from the research and analyst firm. They do deep dives into the data center sector on their Hawk podcast, hosted by founder David Liggitt and co-host Mike Netzer. They have hundreds of videos available here on YouTube, including series on specific geographic markets, trends in data center real estate and investing, as well as playlists on data center fundamentals and hyperscale computing. The Data Center Hawk content is supported by their extensive market data on data center leasing transactions, locations, and pricing. If you’re interested in staying current on the data center industry, you should definitely be listening to this podcast.
There are some worthwhile data center and AI podcasts that don’t currently post their content to YouTube but can be found on most services you might use to get your podcasts. These include The Data Center Frontier Show, which I launched back in 2017 when I was the editor of Data Center Frontier. My successor, DCF editor-in-chief Matt Vincent, interviews makers from across the industry. The team from events and publishing company Data Center Dynamics produces The DCD Zero Downtime podcast, which you can find on Spotify and the DCD website. And I can also heartily recommend a podcast produced by Google called “Where the Internet Lives,” which provides a look inside Google’s data centers and how they operate, along with the stories of the teams that work in these facilities and the communities where they are located.
The good news is that there’s lots of awesome data center information here on YouTube, and we’ll be providing even more with The Data Center Richness podcast.
